Gym Etiquette 2025: The 10-Point Checklist for Actual Adults

TL;DR: Gym etiquette is just respect + efficiency. Keep the place clean, share the toys, and don’t sabotage other people’s sets. Here’s a printable 10-point checklist you can screenshot and send to that one friend.

The 10 rules (pin this)

  1. Wipe benches & handles. Sweat happens. Paper + spray. Done.
  2. Put plates back. 20kg doesn’t teleport itself. Re-rack by size.
  3. Share equipment. Ask to work in. Say your rest time.
  4. Don’t camp a station. Phone scrolls happen off the bench.
  5. Headphones on, volume down. The whole gym doesn’t need your playlist.
  6. Spotting = safety, not upright rows. Ask what the lifter wants.
  7. Film respectfully. Get consent if someone could be in frame. Crop faces.
  8. Diagonal deadlift drama? Keep your bar path clear. Don’t block platforms.
  9. Cologne, chalk, and tripod management. Use sparingly. Clean up chalk clouds.
  10. Be kind to beginners. We were all new once. Offer help only if asked.

Quick scripts you can use

  • Work-in request: “Mind if I work in? I’ll rest 90 seconds.”
  • Spot request: “Just a lift-off, no touch unless it stalls.”
  • Filming consent: “I’m framing this rack—are you okay being in the background?”

When rules bend (context matters)

Peak hour? Keep supersets to one lane or one corner. Quiet times? More freedom, but still clean up and re-rack.

Wear it like you train it.
